Welcome to Melon's Worldbuilding/World Bible Template.
The goal of this template is to prompt a few questions for your setting that you might not have thought up on your own, and help you organise your thoughts!
- Your story should always take precedence over your worldbuilding. Worldbuilding can help you find interesting plot points, but it shouldn’t be at the expense of the story you want to tell.
- A worldbuilding document's purpose is for your personal reference, so you don't forget important details later. You can fill it out before, during, or even after you've finished writing.
- You're not obligated to fill out every category - delete anything irrelevant to you, and if you don't feel like fleshing something out right away, you can put something basic as a placeholder, only elaborating if/when you need to.
- Remember to emphasise things unique to your setting. Things that are close to reality can be filled in by audience assumption.
- Whenever something differs significantly to modern day Earth, think through the logical implications. For instance, if everyone could fly, we probably wouldn't have airlines. (This is particularly relevant to magical systems.)
- When writing your story, remember not to infodump. Show instead of tell wherever you can. You don't owe anyone — except this document — an explanation (: .
If you like using HTML, you can copy and save the page source directly. If you prefer using a text editor, click here for a PDF.(NOT IMPLEMENTED YET SORRY)
If you like using Discord for your template, I have a server template you can use. Unfortunately, you have to copy all the subheadings in yourself.
